The Global Slavery Index reports over 1 million people trapped in modern-day slavery in the U.S. This includes a wide range of crimes, such as labor trafficking, sex trafficking, forced prostitution, domestic servitude, and criminal exploitation—each involving control, coercion, and exploitation for profit.
Victims face multiple barriers—remaining hidden or unidentified and struggling to navigate resources. For those who escape exploitation, exit is only the first step toward freedom. Even after breaking free, survivors often face a long road to healing, with limited access to long-term restorative care. There are only about 2,000 beds dedicated to long-term residential survivor care nationwide. If every victim of human trafficking in the U.S. exited exploitation tomorrow, there would only be long-term care available for less than 1% of survivors. The need for greater holistic support far exceeds the resources available.
Human trafficking occurs in the shadows, making it difficult to track and measure accurately. While available data is limited, it still reveals the deep impact of this issue. Based on national data and our firsthand experience serving survivors, here’s what we know.

Survivors of human trafficking face immense challenges, but Her Song helps them overcome these barriers through Outreach, Care Coordination, and Long-term Residential Survivor Care.
Through outreach, we equip communities and service providers to recognize trafficking victims while also connecting with survivors directly in jails, prisons, and local communities, bringing them critical resources. Through care coordination, we provide hands-on guidance, ensuring survivors don’t have to navigate complex services alone. Additionally, our long-term residential survivor care program offers a safe, supportive environment where women can heal, rebuild, and develop the skills needed to pursue lifelong freedom.
